General Manager of the Tranquillity Irrigation District, Danny Wade, drives his truck on the Fresno Slough levee, checking the work of his earth-moving crews. Wade has his crews shoring up levees in and around Tranquillity in preparation for the projected snow-melt coming soon. Wade has crews raising and reinforcing levees affected by subsidence from the drought and vulnerable to flooding this spring when the snow melts. Wade checks water levels daily to keep track of water entering his district. Wade also checks the levees for squirrel and gopher holes which need to be filled in before they can undermine the integrity of the levee walls.
